I am a Queer Latino, Y Que? – Alex Wells – ICD Program Director

Here  is an interesting interview with a bloke called Danny Olvera; he’s a co-founder of xQsí Magazine, an LGTBQ Latino publication with a big focus on negotiating identity.

For all the damage that the internet is said to bring to local communities, it’s hard to argue against stuff like this—and particularly when it publishes pieces like this (http://xQsimagazine.com/2011/06/14/consider-this-before-and-after-coming-out/). It’s the kind of thing you couldn’t do at a local level or via any offline medium. A triumph, shall we say, for the facebook generation.

It might have killed the bookstore (http://www.economist.com/blogs/prospero/2011/07/borders-and-bankruptcy), and it might have knocked off (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2006/mar/14/newmedia.studentmediaawards) both video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx5tSmOY_iM) and the radio star (http://diymusician.cdbaby.com/2010/08/has-the-internet-really-destroyed-the-music-business/), but the interwebs offers a way to negotiate complex identities in a way that nothing else ever could.
